Carlos Sadness
Guest artist: Yoly Saa
One of the essential artists on the Spanish indie pop scene, Latin America in general and Mexico in particular hold a special place in Carlos Sadness’ career, which has now lasted a decade and counting. The poetry of the lyrics of his songs, which combines so well with his music, has earned him a veritable host of followers who skyrocket his playback stats to infinity and beyond, and who sell out his concerts time and time again.
If his last album, Tropical Jesus, showed how much he has been seduced by the rhythms of Latin America, his new EP Nice Twerking (Perreo Bonito), reveals that he has once again fallen under the spell of the magical realism of Spanish-speaking America. The three songs and his collaboration with La Bien Querida – in the song that lends its name to the EP – make that abundantly clear. This work, which he will present during the Veranos de la Villa festival, along with other firm favourites such as I Love You a Little (Te quiero un poco) and Papaya Love (Amor Papaya), will continue to change as Sadness gradually adds new music to it.
Opening the show will be Yoly Saa, a young singer-songwriter from Pontevedra who has penned songs for other artists such as Ana Guerra, Eva B, Malú and Luz Casal, and whose distinctive voice and unique sensitivity make her one of the most promising newcomers on the Spanish pop scene.
