Eins Zwei Drei
Martin Zimmermann has been building a wordless stage universe of great visual strength for more than twenty years now. His work revisits and transforms the classic archetypes of circus thanks to contemporary dance, theatre and the creation of magical scenic spaces.
The Swiss artist visits the Veranos de la Villa festival for the Madrid première of Eins Zwei Drei, a contemporary version of the trio of clowns: the whiteface clown with his dignified and respectable airs and graces, the impertinent auguste clown, and the third one who annoys everybody and upsets the entire apple cart. Together they create a mini-society determined to resist the abuses of the powers that be and their conflicts, opening up infinite possibilities that allow us to explore the different ways in which we can relate to one another, from a life lived alone or with a partner, without forgetting the infernal trio that they create.
Martin Zimmermann brings together three virtuoso dancers and physical actors, accompanied by a prodigious pianist, and sets them in an ultra-modern museum that serves as a framework and context for their incessant mischief. Each one fights for his survival, the bodies join together and pull apart, they face their conventions, their own limits, and together they ensure that the work unravels in a mysterious and surreal universe.
