RANCHERA FLAMENCA

From the earliest days of her career, María Toledo has sought to create renewed flamenco that's different and innovative. The first woman in flamenco to accompany herself on the piano, she has been nominated for four Grammys and has won several awards, including
Best Newcomer at Las Minas International Flamenco Song Festival and First Prize at the Cadiz Biennial, in addition to the Special Award for the Female Flamenco Singer with the Broadest Range and the Award for “Cantes de Compás” (songs with compás, or rhythmic flamenco patterns) in Mairena del Alcor.
She will present her new album, Ranchera flamenca, at Veranos de la Villa Festival for the first time ever. Its songs blend Mexican rancheras with flamenco palos, or styles, to the beat of alegrías, seguiriyas, sevillanas, bulerías, tangos and more.
The concert will take us back in time, revisiting great songs by the mystical Mexican which are also suffused with Spanish guitar chords, giving them their own unique style.
Who hasn’t heard classics by José Alfredo Jiménez, Juan Gabriel or Rocío Dúrcal? In this concert, the rancheras will bear the stamp of María Toledo and the artists who will be accompanying her that night: Andy and Lucas and flamenco dancer José Carmona, better known in the dance world under his artistic name Rapico.
