Omara Portuondo. Vida

Omara Portuondo

Omara Portuondo. Vida

When Wim Wenders filmed the Buena Vista Social Club documentary in the late 1990s, Omara Portuondo was already more than 60 years old and the grande dame of Cuban song. She was particularly well-known as the best exponent of Cuba’s filin movement that emerged in the 1940s: the “feeling movement” of singers who interpret lyrics with stirring emotion. “I put my heart into it, I put every emotion into my singing”, she says when asked to describe her style.

Now, one of the great exponents of the Caribbean island’s traditional music has announced her farewell to the stage with a final world tour entitled Vida, which will bring her to Madrid this summer. A magical evening filled with her best-known hits from her extensive repertoire and with which Portuondo bids farewell to the international stage after a career full of great moments.
